Our mission is to end the veteran suicide epidemic by providing resources, research, and advocacy for U.S. military veterans seeking psychedelic-assisted therapies for traumatic brain injury (TBI), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addiction, and other health conditions. Location:
While this position will be performed primarily remotely, the Director of Development will be expected to travel occasionally.
Position Overview:
VETS is seeking an experienced Director of Development to lead and expand our philanthropic initiatives. This role is instrumental in leading a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support VETS’ mission and expand our impact. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in major gift fundraising, moves management, event planning, Board and volunteer management, and annual giving. Additionally, the Director of Development will have experience crafting compelling donor communications and marketing materials.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage an active portfolio of 50-75 individual, corporate, and foundation prospects and develop identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies in line with VETS priorities.
- Responsible for the achievement of annual fundraising goals and metrics.
- Partner with the CEO to create strategy for top donors.
- Oversee planning, coordination, and execution of fundraising events, including the annual gala, in collaboration with the Director of Events.
- Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan in collaboration with the MarCom team.
- Create compelling donor facing materials, including proposals, impact reports, stewardship materials, and other communications in collaboration with MarCom that inspire and encourage philanthropic support to VETS.
- Implement and oversee data entry process for donor pipeline management, engagement, and gift processing, adhering to best practices for reporting information in the donor database and other tracking systems.
- Partner with the CFO to ensure accurate financial reporting for budgets, proposals, grants, and other funding sources, while overseeing donor acknowledgment letters and tax receipts.
- Engage with VETS’ Board of Directors in pursuit of annual fundraising goals.
- Facilitate interactions between grant recipients and donors via the Ambassador Program.
- Represent VETS at both internal and external functions and events and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies including staff, board members, researchers, advocates, and donors.
- Collaborate effectively with staff across the organization to support cross-department initiatives and build strong internal and external partnerships.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (CFRE or ACFRE certification preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in fundraising, development, or a related field, with success closing major gifts.
- Experience developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising plan, including portfolio management, annual and planned giving, and special events.
- Proven experience working with individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
- Motivational and organized team leader with previous experience building and managing a team, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to be flexible and adapt with evolving responsibilities.
- Desire to work in a fast paced, start-up environment, and creatively conceptualize and implement new projects and strategies.
- Track record of building successful relationships with donors and team members coupled with the ability to be a self-motivated, independent thinker where needed.
- Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with prioritization of deadlines.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Salesforce, Monday.com, G-Suite, Donor Search, and/or Classy preferred.
- Understanding and appreciation of the VETS mission.
- Ability to work remotely.

Compensation and Benefits
This position offers a salary range of $85K - $115K and competitive benefits package, commensurate with experience.
