Commitment: 

This is a part-time, independent contractor position. 

Location: 

While this position will be performed primarily remotely, occasional travel will be necessary. 

Job Summary:

The Director of Events at VETS plans, coordinates, and executes all organizational events, including fundraising initiatives, community outreach activities, educational conferences, and special events to advance our mission. Collaborating closely with departments, volunteers, and stakeholders, this role ensures successful event outcomes, enhances visibility, and maximizes fundraising efforts. We seek a dynamic, motivated individual with a proactive attitude, dedicated to surpassing budgetary fundraising goals and achieving high ROI. This position works alongside the Chief of Staff, Director of Development, VETS leadership team, and Board of Directors to strategically develop and implement signature events that boost press coverage, brand awareness, community relations, revenue, donor loyalty, and supporter base expansion.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Event Planning and Execution:

    • With a strong emphasis on execution and innovation, this role will lead event management, and event committees, including logistical preparation, vendor coordination, awards, presentations, speaker management, auction oversight, scripting/run-of-show, video production coordination, data entry, and other necessary tasks to ensure the success of our events and partnerships.
    • Assists with the development of concepts, themes, and formats for major events for the organization that engage supporters, increase brand awareness, align with goals/objectives, and grow revenue.
    • Ensure events are delivered on time, within budget, and meet or exceed expectations.
    • Track and report on event expenses and revenues, providing regular updates to the CEO and other key stakeholders; provide detailed pre/post-event reports.
    • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required.
  2. Fundraising:

    • Collaborate with the Development team to achieve or surpass financial targets through effective fundraising strategies.
    • Identify and cultivate relationships with sponsors, donors, and partners to secure event sponsorships and donations.
    • Provide innovative fundraising approaches to enhance revenue generation and guest experiences, driving support for VETS’ mission through engaging and memorable events.
  3. Marketing and Promotion:

    • Collaborate with the MarCom team to develop content for event correspondence, and collateral materials, while creating an event calendar and action plan to leverage social media, email campaigns, and other marketing channels for effective event promotion.
    • Ensure consistent and effective communication with event participants, sponsors, and stakeholders.
    • Stay updated on event and fundraising platforms to optimize ticket & sponsorship sales, attendance (seamless event experiences), and auction processes.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Hospitality Management, Marketing, Communications) or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in event planning and execution, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Proven track record of successfully planning and executing large-scale events and fundraising initiatives.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple events simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders in particular donors of VETS.
  • Proficiency in event management software (e.g., BetterUnite, Classy), CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by event schedules.
  • Passion for the nonprofit sector and the mission of VETS.
Compensation and Benefits

This is an independent contractor position with pay commensurate with experience. No health benefits are provided.
