Psychedelic-assisted therapies can lay the groundwork for sustained healing, but the absence of legal medical settings make them nearly impossible to access within the United States. VETS provides grants that enable veterans to access safe, clinically-guided treatments in countries where they’re legal or unregulated, and resources to help grantees navigate their healing.

Facilitating access

Facilitating Access to Psychedelic Therapy

The heart of our mission is to expand access to psychedelic-assisted therapies. Given current restrictions on these treatments in the United States, we’ve established our Foundational Healing Grants program to cover treatment expenses and provide robust, wrap-around support to grantees. VETS is actively engaged in research and advocacy efforts to help expand access to psychedelic-assisted therapy to all veterans.

Disclaimer: VETS does not provide psychedelic-assisted therapies. All psychedelic-assisted therapy treatments for VETS grant recipients, with the exception of ketamine-assisted therapy, take place outside of the U.S., in countries where these substances are legal or unregulated, at vetted, third-party facilities, monitored by medical professionals.

A Comprehensive, Customized Approach

Healing is a journey. We support veterans every step of the way.

Psychedelic therapy is not a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s a catalyst for foundational change that works best when participants are supported with compassion, encouragement, and quality programming.

Approaching treatment with the proper mindset and remaining intentional during the following weeks is paramount. VETS builds a support system tailored to the needs of each individual grant recipient, to guide them through their healing journey – before, during, and well after treatment.

Healing Spouse

Healing For The Spouse

Trauma sustained during military service can have detrimental effects on a veteran’s marriage and family. The pain, fear, and heartbreak often experienced by the spouse leads many to seek healing as well.

Therefore, VETS ensures that the spouse of each Foundational Healing Grant recipient is given the opportunity to experience psychedelic-assisted therapy as well. With the spouse’s participation, the healing journey may become a shared experience, helping repair and strengthen the marriage, and often, the family as a whole.

Wrap-Around Support

While many veterans share similar experiences, each of their stories are unique. Coaching veterans on their road to self-awareness and recovery–and building community along the way–is a fundamental aspect of the VETS mission.

We provide preparation and integration coaching in both individual and group settings so that veterans feel comfortable throughout the treatment process, as well as supported as they manage their experience afterwards. VETS also hosts an ongoing community support network where veterans and their spouses have access to mentorship, peer support, meditation classes, yoga workshops, and more.

Our Ambassador Program enables VETS grant recipients who have participated in their own healing, and are active in the VETS community, to stay involved by being of service to their peers, and representing the VETS mission.

Knowledge is Power – and We Are Spreading It.

How can psychedelic-assisted therapy impact veteran health? How does it work? What are the risks? How can veterans prepare for and make the most of psychedelic-assisted therapies?

To answer these questions, we’ve created a free online course designed for veterans and their families, but available to anyone who wants to learn. The e-course explains the science, history, and rationale behind psychedelic-assisted therapies.
